The photo: Funk seeing for the first time the dilapidated trailer that I rented for his 2007 mayoral campaign. And hick that he is, he loved it! Originally, I started helping my husband with his campaign for mayor only from the standpoint of being a dutiful wife. Strangely enough, I was pretty good at it. Back then, I worked with Funk’s volunteers in getting my husband’s message out to the public. Most of them were complete brains that had the best ideas. And while I’ve always been good at noticing a good idea when I see one, and then running […]

A friend of mine recently posted that while he understands the reason for the women’s marches last weekend, he feels it’s not going to change a thing

A friend of mine recently posted that while he understands the reason for the women’s marches last weekend, he feels it’s not going to change a thing. To him, voices have spoken – that’s all. To that I say baby steps! Back when Funk was running for mayor we both saw firsthand that there was a New Politics on the horizon. He was a “nobody” politician back then, supported mainly by the regular folks. Which means, he slipped in under the radar with that election. And while the establishment made sure he wasn’t re-elected, he was on the forefront of […]

Some of the things I learned when my husband ruined my life by running for mayor of Kansas City

Some of the things I learned when my husband ruined my life by running for mayor of Kansas City: a. The media is not always objective. Seriously, I didn’t know that until then! b. The media will craft a story, much like screenwriters do. And this to bump sales, control the agenda, or simply to “get even.” For a trusting gal like me, it blew my mind to learn this. c. When in a position of power, it is never more important to be honest and respectful of your brethren. I sort of knew this from my birthing business, but […]

Dear Friends and Family

Dear Friends and Family, It’s been 2½ years since we left Kansas City, and DC finally feels like home. That’s probably because we moved. Again! I thought we’d stay in our initial apartment for the duration, but after getting wind that management sold my view of the Italian garden, I spent six months looking for another place. One snowy day last January, something came on the market that was only a few doors down. Once I spotted the garden and courtyard, I made the realtor wait on me while I ran back to our apartment for reinforcement. Andrew was still […]

I did not vote for Donald Trump

I did not vote for Donald Trump. But I will not be disrespectful of our country’s newest leader by raging about him. For one, complaining only makes me powerless – a victim – and that does nothing towards having him removed from office earlier than his elected four years mandates. Worse, though, if citizens don’t show respect for our country, then who in the WORLD is going to? Imbibing in such weak behavior only sets the stage for terrorism to creep onto our land. There are many respectful ways to impeach the president-elect, if that’s your desire. Hey, I have […]
