Funk and I went to a showing of Detropia, http://detropiathefilm.com/, at a little art cinema up the street from us this weekend. It was sad. Detroit is at the tail end of what Kansas City is right in the middle of. Everything that Funk sounded the alarm bells for, and worked hard to turn around in his administration, is depicted in this movie. While he was able to pull the city back from bankruptcy, his efforts are not sustainable unless the culture of government changes drastically. Thinking about it makes me sad not only for the children of Kansas City, but for our country as a whole. We seem to be living off a reputation of America, instead of working hard to keep that reputation intact.
